Jeremy Samuel Piven was born July 26, 1965 in New York, New York. He grew up in suburban Chicago. As a teen, he attended theater camp, where he acted in plays like "West Side Story." His parents were both actors and drama teachers, so he trained with them at their Piven Theatre Workshop. John Cusack, a high school friend of Piven's, also trained with at the Workshop. After high school, he studied at Drake University and National Theater Institute.

Piven's first big career break came when he joined the cast of HBO's "The Larry Sanders Show" for several seasons. Piven has also been starring in films since the late 1980s, appearing in films like "The Family Man," "Black Hawk Down," "Heat," "Runaway Jury" and others. Since 2004, he has starred as Ari Gold on HBO's "Entourage." He has received several Emmy nominations for the role. He also had roles on "Cupid" and "Ellen." He has also appeared in numerous TV commercials and in the music video for "Drivin' Me Wild" by rapper Common.

Piven detailed his journey across India in his own Travel Channel special "Jeremy Piven's Journey of a Lifetime." He has stated that he supports Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election.
