John Phillip Stamos was born on August 19, 1963 in Cypress, California. He was a musical child - at age four he began playing drums, and at 13 started a rock band called Destiny with some of his friends. The band played gigs at parties and amusements parks in the area. It was a high school field trip to a taping of "Happy Days" that convinced him he wanted to become an actor.

From 1982 to 1984, he played troubled Blackie Parrish on "General Hospital." After "G.H." he moved on to a lead role in the short-lived "Dreams," a CBS sitcom in which he played a hopeful rock musician. Stamos' career took a leap when he was cast as the adored Uncle Jesse on "Full House." The show ran for eight seasons and made Stamos widely recognizable. After the show was canceled, Stamos starred in television films like "Wedding Wars" and TV series like "Thieves" and "Jake in Progress." In 2006, he fell into the spotlight again with a role as Tony Gates on "ER."

Stamos never quite left behind his musical roots - he has occasionally toured with The Beach Boys, drumming and backing on vocals. He also played in the band The Signals. He dated Demi Moore, Lori Loughlin and Paula Abdul before marrying model Rebecca Romijn in 1998. The couple divorced in 2005.
