Brad Pitt Can Do No Wrong, Bill Maher Says

August 17, 2009

Brad Pitt can do no wrong, according to Bill Maher. In an interview with the political commentator on his show "Real Time" on Friday, Pitt was told that he "cannot do anything that will make America not like you."

Maher said the film star is can "beat a nun to death on a pile of dead puppies" and still be loved by America.

He also quizzed Pitt - who raises 6 kids with partner Angelina Jolie - about his pot smoking past, recalling seeing him at a New Year's Eve party "on the floor" but "very sober."

Pitt jokingly replied, "I'm an artist." He explained that he has given up smoking when he became a father.

When asked what is it he doesn't like about religion, the star said, "You know, I grew up in a religious family, in a religious community and it just doesn't make sense to me. It just doesn't work for me in the long run."

"I never wanted to step on anyone else's religion and their beliefs - that's what's great about our country - until I started seeing it defining policy… Like gay marriage, you have a group of people telling other people how to live their lives, and you can't do that."
