'Smash': Karen lets out her inner 'Redneck Woman'

February 20, 2012 05:13 am CST

"Smash" takes a detour from the lights of Broadway on Monday (Feb. 20) as it follows Karen (Katharine McPhee) home to Iowa.

After not getting the part of Marilyn Monroe, Karen feels a little bit adrift -- even as she's offered a spot in the show's ensemble -- and a trip home for a friend's baby shower doesn't really help much with her resolve.

But she does still know how to cut loose. At a bar with her friends, she rips out a cover of Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman" -- you can watch it at the top of the post.

Back in New York, Eileen (Anjelica Huston) has a line on an investor for the show, but her ex, Jerry (Michael Cristofer), doesn't particularly like Eileen striking out on her own. Their conflict is set to heat up over the next couple episodes, and it's kind of fun watching these two pros go at it. You can watch a part of it below.

"Smash" airs at 10 p.m. ET Monday on NBC.
