CNS Television Report: Mario Lopez To Host "MTV's Top Pop Group"

Mario Lopez is a dancer, actor, writer, producer, television host -- the guy is everywhere. Lopez just added another gig to his already busing schedule as he is headed to MTV for "MTV's Top Pop Group."

Lopez, who was recently named the single host of the daily nationally syndicated show "Extra!", is also the host of "Americas Best Dance Crew." And now, fans can catch him on "MTV's Top Pop Group" as, you guessed it, the host.

Celebrity News Service has been keeping track of Lopez since he finished as runner-up on "Dancing with the Stars" during the show's third season. After "Dancing," his career seemed to explode. And so did his shirts -- which means he goes shirtless much of the time, but who are we to complain?

Now Lopez is taking over the reigns of "MTV's Top Pop Group," a reality show that features musical groups already in existence but they are looking for that big break. Think the Jonas Brothers, the Pussycat Dolls, The Beatles. Yeah, we said The Beatles. Maybe Lopez won't discover another Fab Four, but he is on the lookout for the next pop sensation.

The MTV show will debut on September 11 at 10 /9c, but first Lopez will give us a sneak peek at the nine talented groups who have made it into the competition. The show is aptly called, "MTV's Top Pop Group: The Casting Special" and will be broadcast Thursday, August 28 at 9/8c.

The one-hour show will feature Lopez (no word as to whether he will be wearing a shirt or not) as he introduces each of the groups -- nine groups have been selected -- and gives viewers a chance to see a behind-the-scene audition and the personal lives of each of the bands.

The bands were picked following a nationwide search in Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Miami and Los Angeles. The nine groups are now headed to Hollywood for a chance to win $100,000 and the title of "MTV's Top Pop Group." They will also get to spend a little quality time with our man Lopez.

The groups will also spend time with a celebrity coach, and of course hopefully endear themselves into America's hearts, because yes, America will be voting to determine who makes it through to the next round.
