Comedy Central has ordered a pilot for a half-hour, scripted comedy from news satire organization The Onion that is based on the popular Onion Sports Network online video series.

The as-yet untitled show will take on the world of modern sports with an eye towards appealing to sports fanatics and more casual fans, and the long-time followers of The Onion and The Onion News Network.

It is expected to follow its format from The Onion Sports Network video content, which replicates the fast-paced coverage of modern sports.

Comedy Central's Lauren Corrao said, "We are thrilled to be in business with a cultural icon like The Onion to give our audience the sports show they deserve. The short-form content on the OSN Web series is outstanding, hilarious and exactly what you'd expect from the gang. We're really excited to take this great idea and turn it into a regular, weekly series."

Julie Smith of the Onion News Network will produce the half-hour series, while Will Graham will direct.
