One new Disney Channel series has already come a long way, baby.

The network's surprise hit, "Good Luck Charlie" has been renewed for a second season, but the show about a new arrival has its own follow-up set for the future. The series will also be adapted for a TV movie.

The show and the upcoming movie focus on the Duncan family, a close-knit clan who find their already hectic lives just a little more unpredictable with the addition of new baby girl Charlie (Mia Talerico). Kids Teddy, P.J. and Gabe (Bridgit Mendler, Jason Dolley, Bradley Steven Perry) are given more responsibility as parents Amy and Bob (Leigh-Allyn Baker and Eric Allan Kramer) need all the help they can get to bring life back to normal.

Debuting in April, the show has been an immediate hit with Disney Channel viewers, scoring as the top Nielsen-rated show on TV with kids age 6 to 11 and tweens age 9 to 14 in the second quarter of 2010.

"Good Luck Charlie" is executive-produced by Dan Staley, Phil Baker and Drew Vaupen. Baker and Vaupen also created the show. The forthcoming TV movie will be penned Geoff Rodkey, whose resume includes "R.V." and "Daddy Day Care."
