Whitney Houston Previews New Album "I Look To You"

July 23, 2009

Whitney Houston, though undoubtedly one of the biggest names in music for the past 25 years, has had her struggles.

The pop temptress with the uncanny voice struggled through an alleged addiction to crack cocaine and a divorce from longtime beau Bobby Brown.

Thankfully for Houston and her fans, Hollywood loves comebacks.

Houston previewed songs and cover art in London Tuesday from her first album in seven years, "I Look To You", set for release September 1.

Clive Davis, chief creative officer of Sony Music, helped engineer the long-awaited and highly anticipated comeback. Davis, who was on hand for the festivities, discovered Houston and has mentored her through her long and storied career. Whitney said at the event, "When Clive called me I was pretty ready to buy my island home [and retire] but he said, 'No, you're going to sing again, people want to hear you,'" according to Billboard.com.

Recipient of the music industry's largest-ever contract with Arista Records in 2001 for a historic $100 million dollars, Houston has been absent from music since 2002's "Just Whitney".

"I Didn't Know My Own Strength" is one of the songs off the album and was leaked several weeks ago. The songs "Million Dollar Bill," "Nuthin' But Love," "Call You Tonight," "I Didn't Know My Own Strength," "For the Lovers," "I Look to You," and "Worth It" were all previewed at the event. According to Davis, "Call You Tonight" is the likely first single.

Alicia Keys, R. Kelly, Stargate and Akon are reportedly featured on the album. Akon sings a duet with Houston called "Like I Never Left."
