Walt Disney Pictures' much awaited sci-fi film, "John Carter", has been premiered in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, February 22. Stealing the spotlight on the red carpet that rolled out outside the Regent LA Live Theatre were lead actor Taylor Kitsch and his gorgeous co-star Lynn Collins.

Kitsch was all smiles as he greeted some female fans and posed for the swarming cameramen at the special screening event. The actor playing the titular hero in the novel-adapted movie looked dapper in a traditional two-piece black suit.

Orlando Bloom hasn't exactly had the best time of it at the multiplex in recent years. After his successful run in the LOTR and Pirates franchises ended, he's had a few decent films, but nothing that stood out. So he'll likely be hoping for better things with Jerome Salle's Zulu, which finds him teaming up with Djimon Hounsou.

Salle, who directed Anthony Zimmer (which was badly remade as The Tourist) and The Burma Conspiracy, has worked with regular co-writer Julien Rappeneau to adapt Caryl Ferey's novel, set in post-Apartheid South Africa.

Bloom and Hounsou will play a pair of South African coppers who investigate crimes including the murder of 18-year-old Nicole Wiese, the daughter of a championship Springbok rugby team player. Suffice to say, things just get darker from there.

After opening as a box office champion on a record-breaking weekend, "The Vow" continues to hit another milestone on Valentine's Day. The romantic movie starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams has broken the record for a non-weekend Valentine by grossing a massive $11.6 million, increasing 251% from Monday.

The Michael Sucsy-directed drama displaces previous record holder, "Hitch", which collected $7.5 million on Valentine's Day Monday in 2005. Last year, "Just Go With It" bagged only $6 million on the same sweetheart holiday on Monday.

Back in 2010, "Valentine's Day" grossed a tremendous $23.4 million but the Valentine's Day fell on Sunday. In 2009, "Friday the 13th" raked in $14.3 million but the February 14 holiday was on Saturday.

Inspirational biopic The Butler has been quietly wandering the halls of development hell for a few years now. First picked up by Sony in early 2009, the project has since fallen from its studio accommodation and is now set up as an independent production with Precious director Lee Daniels trying to get it made. And he's looking to assemble a starry ensemble for the film, including Hugh Jackman, John Cusack, Mila Kunis, David Oyelowo and Oprah Winfrey.

The script has been adapted from Wil Haygood's 2008 Washington Post article A Butler Well Served By This Election, which tracked the impressive story of Eugene Allen, a black man who rose to the position of butler in the White House and eventually worked for eight presidents between 1952 and 1986.

Back when he first joined the kitchen staff as a young man, he wasn't even allowed to use public toilets in his home state of Virginia. He watched the country slowly grow up as his career progressed, experiencing such historical points as Vietnam and the assassinations of Martin Luther King and both Kennedy brothers from within the halls of power. The story charted how Allen marvelled at President Obama being elected in late 2008, an event tinged with sadness as he lost his wife of 65 years hours before Election Day.

The cast for Elmore Leonard adaptation The Switch is coming together quickly now that writer-director Dan Schechter has found his leading men. The latest actors in talks to sign on? Jennifer Aniston and Dennis Quaid.

If they sign, the pair will play key roles in the film, which according to Deadline, is not actually serving as a prequel to Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown. It will, however, still be taken from Elmore Leonard's 1978 novel. John Hawkes and Yasiin Bey are set as younger versions of Louis Gara and Ordell Robbie, the less-than-successful criminals we first met as Robert De Niro and Samuel L Jackson in Brown (itself an adaptation of Leonard's Rum Punch).

Gara and Robbie cook up a scheme to kidnap Mickey Dawson (Aniston), the wife of a corrupt Detroit real estate tycoon (Quaid. But he refuses to pay the ransom to get his wife back and Dawson in turn hires the two goons to help her get revenge on her husband. Modern Family's Ty Burrell is also aboard as Marshall Taylor, a married country club member with a huge crush on Mickey who sees her get snatched and then dithers about whether he should try to help.
