What's the next best thing to having a candy cane during the holiday season? Having some artificial peppermint flavoring courtesy of the latest addition to your DVD collection.

"Extract" will soon be available on home video. The Mike Judge comedy is scheduled to be released from Miramax Films and Buena Vista Home Entertainment on DVD and Blu-ray Hi-Def on Dec. 22.

The movie follows factory owner and manager Joel (Jason Bateman), whose working life is one long hassle, and his marriage is no better, with his wife (Kristen Wiig) barely showing him any affection. An accident on the job involving an employee (Clifton Collins Jr.) only further convinces Joel that he needs to get out of the extract business. But when a young temp (Mila Kunis) starts fawning over him it could spell trouble for everybody as Joel schemes to arrange for his wife to cheat on him with a young pool cleaner (Dustin Milligan) to avoid feeling guilty about his own planned affair.

The film's stars include Ben Affleck, J.K. Simmons, David Koechner, Beth Grant, Kiss singer Gene Simmons and the movie's writer/director Judge.

Academy Award-nominated actor Don Cheadle and Irish actor Brendan Gleeson have commenced production on their latest comedy thriller "The Guard" in the West of Ireland.

The film will follow the story of an unorthodox small-town Irish policeman (Gleeson) who unites with a straitlaced FBI agent (Cheadle) to take on a cocaine-smuggling ring.

Liam Cunningham, Pat Shortt, Fionnuala Flanagan, Mark Strong, David Wilmot, Rory Keenan, and Katarina Cas also star in the film.

"Ned Kelly" writer John Michael McDonagh has penned the script and is also directing the project.

"Prince of Darkness" Ozzy Osbourne wants Johnny Depp to play him in a film. The Black Sabbath legend says he wants his newly released memoir, "I Am Ozzy," to be turned into a movie and the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star to star as him.

He told Now that he hopes the 46-year-old actor is the right person to take the lead role in the film, if ever it gets made.

"I Am Ozzy" details the 60-year-old rocker's journey from being born into a poor family into becoming the Godfather of Heavy Metal, where along the way, he encountered setbacks and difficulties, including his addiction to drugs and losing his best friend and writing partner Randy Rhoades in a tragic plane crash.

It was released on October 1.

The first ever Doha Tribeca Film Festival has presented top Audience Awards to a Palestinian film and to a documentary on Sunday.

The "Pomegranates and Myrrh," directed by Najwa Najjar, received ,000 after winning the Audience Award in the festival. The audience chose the film as the best Arab movie in the festival.

Another big winner was "Team Qatar," a documentary directed by Liz Mermin that tells the story of high school students taking part in an international debate. It took home ,000 for winning the trophy.

The original Tribeca Film Festival was co-founded by Hollywood star Robert de Niro in New York in 2001. He also helped organize the Doha Tribeca Film Festival with the Qatari authorities.

The presenting sponsor for the American Film Institute's annual event has a lot of drive.

Audi of America will be the primary sponsor of "AFI Fest 2009 presented by Audi." The 23rd edition of the film festival, which kicks off today, will run through Nov. 7. This is the auto manufacturer's sixth consecutive year as the presenting sponsor.

In a press release for the event, Audi representatives expressed enthusiasm for the festival.

"The influence and character of AFI Fest aligns well with the prestige of the Audi brand," said Scott Keogh, Chief Marketing Officer. "Our role as presenting sponsor in 2009 comes at a very exciting moment in the event's history."

"A Prophet," a new French prison drama from director Jacques Audiard, was the recipient of the Star of London award, the first best film award handed out by the London Film Festival.

Actress Angelica Huston presented the award to the film's lead actor, Tahar Rahim. Jury chair Huston said the film was a "masterpiece" and that it had "the ambition, purity of vision and clarity of purpose to make it an instant classic".

The film, which tells the story of a young Arab man sent to a French prison where he becomes part of the local mafia, also received the Grand Prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival. It is currently scheduled for a limited release in the U.S. in February of 2010.

A special mention was also given to the John Hillcoat-directed "The Road," while screenwriter Jack Thorne received the best British newcomer award for his drama "The Scouting Book for Boys."

A movie about the power to change the world may have the potential to change the life of some of its fans.

As part of the upcoming home video release of the animated film "9," Universal Studios Home Entertainment will be offering fans the opportunity to win up to 0,000.

Starting Nov. 18, the distributor will be giving away numerous prizes, leading up to the DVD and Blu-ray Hi-Def release of "9" on Dec. 29. Besides the HDTVs, Netbooks and Blu-ray players Universal will be distributing - two apiece to winners, so they can give the other as a gift - the studio will distribute a 0,000 check for one winner. Released on Sept. 9 (9/9/09), the animated movie features a world where mankind is all but gone. Man's spirit lives on in a group of tiny dolls called stitchpunks, who must navigate their way through a land full of sinister machines that only want to destroy everything in sight. But the youngest of the group, 9 (voice of Elijah Wood), may hold the key to saving the world. The movie also contains the voices of John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer and Crispin Glover.

Rapper superstar 50 Cent has announced a ten-city screening tour of his directorial debut film "Before I Self Destruct," which is inspired by his upcoming studio album of the same name.

The film - written, directed, and starring 50 Cent - is described as a coming of age story about an inner city youth raised by a hardworking single mother. When his dream of becoming a basketball player fails after his mother is killed, he takes up a life of crime to support his younger brother.

Both album and film will be released November 23. And for a limited time, the album and movie package will include a second DVD featuring a documentary about 50's late mentor and friend, "Two Turntables and a Microphone: The Life and Death of Jam Master Jay."

The latest Disney feature has an even greater gathering of movie magic, all packaged in one of its tiniest characters.

"Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure" is currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray Hi-Def. Released on Oct. 27 from Walt Disney Pictures, the sequel to the 2008 computer animated, direct-to-DVD movie "Tinker Bell" tells of the further adventures of the title fairy and her adventures in Pixie Hollow.

The character was originally popularized in Disney's 1953 adaptation of J.M. Barrie's "Peter Pan." Tinker Bell became a fixture for the studio, also being featured in the opening to the weekly series "The Wonderful World of Disney." The silent character also appeared in 2002's "Return to Never Land." Tink gained a voice (Mae Whitman) with the release of her first solo movie, part of DisneyToon Studios "Disney Fairies" franchise.

The original feature introduced a new group of fairy friends for her, including Fawn, Iridessa, Silvermist and Rosetta.

Michael Jackson fans turned out in the early hours of Wednesday morning to catch a final glimpse of their idol. The London premiere of the late star's "This Is It" film - which follows the singer's preparations for his 50-date London residency in the months leading up to his death - began at 11pm Tuesday night but the late hour didn't stop fans from turning out to support their idol.

"This Is It" - which screened simultaneously at 19 premieres around the world - was drawn from over 100 hours of behind-the-scenes clips shot in Los Angeles and showed a multi-million pound spectacular featuring pyrotechnics, complex dance routines and elaborate stage sets.

However, a group of fans calling themselves "This Is Not It" had called for a boycott of the film, claiming it covered up the "Thriller" star's poor health and glosses over the enormous stress he was under when he died.

Their threatened protest failed to take place, though fewer supporters than expected turned out to see stars including Australian pop star Peter Andre and former Spice Girls star Mel B.

Paying tribute to the pop icon, Mel said: "He was very humble, down to earth, sensitive. He was very, very sweet."

A prehistoric rodent who was on a never-ending quest for an acorn is now part of his creators' pursuit of a world record.

As part of the campaign to coincide with today's release of "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosuars" on home video, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is hosting the grand opening of the Santa Monica ice rink ICE, 1324 Fifth St. Along with the rink's first day of business is Fox's attempt to break the world record for tallest ice sculpture.

A group of 14 artists from Ice Bulb LLC have been working to carve a sculpture in the likeness of "Ice Age" character Scrat. The carving is comprised of more than 133,000 pounds of ice and has been designed over the course of months by Blue Sky Studios. Set to finish in the afternoon, the team's efforts will be judged by a Guinness World Record adjudicator. If approved, the 45-foot sculpture will overtake the previous entry for Tallest Ice Sculpture, the 2006 40.28-foot high entry by France's Michael Amann in Dubai's Ski Dubai.

The day-long event for the record attempt includes a variety of family activities. Among the skating offered for those in attendance, the character Scrat will make an appearance to show off his abilities on the ice. Professional figure skater Randy Gardner will also be on the rink, performing to "Walk the Dinosaur," "Ice Age" vocal star Queen Latifah's cover of the Vanilla Ice song.

Music lovers who take advantage of the online bargain for 50 Cent's upcoming release will find themselves with more than just a new album.

50 Cent's "Before I Self Destruct," the rapper's fourth studio album, is currently available for digital pre-order exclusively on iTunes, leading up to the album's Nov. 23 store release. The pre-order offer includes an immediate download of the artist's single "Baby by Me" featuring Ne-Yo. Buyers will also receive the bonus tracks "Man's World" and "Flight 187," in addition to the album's same-titled film, the documentary "Two Turn Tables and a Microphone: The Life and Death of Jam-Master Jay," and other special features.

The album is purported to be much darker in tone than 2007's "Curtis," taken from 50 Cent's real name, Curtis Jackson. Released through Aftermath Entertainment, Interscope Records and Shady Records, it contains production work from guest artists Dr. Dre and Eminem, the former of whom was responsible for the video for the single and video "OK, You're Right." Previously released singles "Get Up" and "I Get It In" were used as promos for the album. The single "Baby by Me" was produced by Polow da Don, who has also done production work for artists Fergie, T.I. and Ludacris.

The accompanying film for "Before I Self Destruct" features 50 Cent as writer, director and star. The movie chronicles an inner city young man who falls prey to urban violence and crime after his mother is killed and he is forced to abandon his hope of becoming a pro basketball player to raise his younger brother. The story is akin to 50 Cent's semi-autobiographical movie, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'."

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the tallest ice sculpture, by creating one in the shape of the "Ice Age" character Scrat to correspond with the release of the Blu-ray DVD version of "Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs."

The media giant is attempting to make the new record for the sculpture at the opening of the ice skating rink, ICE at Santa Monica."Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" will be released on October 27th, which is the same date that the sculpture will be unveiled in Santa Monica. The sculpture is set to be 45 feet tall with over 133,000 lbs of ice being used that has been gathered from across 4 states.

The Scrat sculpture is set to beat the current record by almost 5 feet. The current record is held by Michel Amann who set the record in Ski Dubai, Dubai on April 20th of 2006. The team will consist of 14 skilled sculptors and will take over 4 days, with a Guinness World Record adjudicator there to oversee the attempt.

The Scrat sculpture will be shown to the public at 4pm on October 27th and World Figure Skating Champion Randy Gardner will perform to the "Walk the Dinosaur" song that is featured in the film, as well as Scrat, who will be showing off his skating skills.

Michael Jackson's fans are boycotting "This Is It," the film about his last performance. Thousands of the late singer's followers have formed a group called "This Is Not It," to protest against the movie, which is due to be released on October 28.

The group has accused the AEG and Sony - the firms behind the film - of concealing Michael's poor health and glossing over the stress he was under as he prepared for his 50-date London residency.

A statement on the group's website reads: "The true state of Michael Jackson's failing health was being hidden from you by those who are making a profit from the screening of the 'This Is It' movie."

"The movie is made of a careful choice of footage taken during Michael Jackson's last rehearsals. Out of 110 hours of footage, a few scenes were selected in which Michael Jackson smiled, in spite of being in a dire state."

"The promoters for 'This Is It,' ignored the signs, ignored the pleas, and in fact, actively covered up the truth. What you will see on that screen is part of that cover up."

"American Pie," the raunchy comedy which launched five sequels, is back yet again with a new chapter in the successful sex romp franchise. "American Pie Presents: The Book of Love" is set to hit stores on December 22nd on Blu-ray and DVD, just in time for Christmas.

Along with Nordstrom's launch of their exclusive clothing and jewelry line inspired by the "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," the retailer is also giving fans the chance to meet cast members from the upcoming movie.

"New Moon" cast members will hit malls across the country to meet with fans and participate in a question and answer forum. The cast will hit twelve malls across 8 dates, visiting up to three malls in one day.

In order to score a meet and greet with cast members, fans will have to line-up at their local participating Nordstrom on Halloween, October 31st, at 8am and be among the first 75 people to spend at their store to receive a VIP pass to the in-store event.

Along with the in-mall events, Nordstrom will also host "Twilight Takeover Parties," an all-day styling event and even advance screenings the day before its nationwide release date of November 20th. Tickets to the screens can be scored with in-store purchases.

"High School Musical" director Kenny Ortega is cutting loose from the "Footloose" remake. The filmmaker/choreographer is exiting the Paramount Pictures project over differences on tone and budget.

Variety reports that Ortega, whose Michael Jackson film "This Is It" is set to unspool on Wednesday, wanted to make a film with elaborately staged musical numbers at million or so budget.

However, production boss Adam Goodman wanted an edgier drama with less emphasis on the musical with only million or less budget.

Ortega decided to leave the production when the disagreement continued. Paramount is currently searching for a new director for the picture, which is set to start production in March.

"Saw VI" took the cut from Spain. The sixth installment of the gory horror film franchise has been given an unforgiving X-rating by Spanish film officials because of its violence.

The Spanish Culture Ministry's Film Institute gave the Lionsgate flick the same rating as porn films. This is said to be the first time it gave a film an X-rating because of violence.

An X-rating means a film is prevented from having a wide theater release and cannot be screened in commercial establishments. As of now, there are only eight theaters in the European country that are licensed to show pornographic films or X-rated materials.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, distributor Buenavista was surprised with the decision and has appealed the ruling. But a speedy resolution to overturn the decision is unlikely, especially since the film has a planned release for Friday.

The newest of the "Ice Age" trilogy is coming to DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

Set to be released on Oct. 27, "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" offers multiple packages courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Along with the standard single disc edition, the animated film, originally presented in 3D, will be available in a three disc Blu-ray combo pack or the two disc "Scrat Pack."

Enhanced by special features, the movie picks up where the second film "Ice Age: The Meltdown" left off with the lovable prehistoric creatures expanding their herd. Mammoths Manny (voice of Ray Romano) and Ellie (Queen Latifah) are expecting a baby, leaving sabretooth tiger Diego (Denis Leary) and sloth Sid (John Leguizamo) feeling left out. But all are in store for another adventure as they discover an underground world where dinosaurs are still alive. Returning to the voice cast are Seann William Scott and Josh Peck, as well as new contributors Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, Jane Lynch and Simon Pegg as a wild, scatter-brained weasel named Buck.

The bonus features are numerous. Aside from deleted scenes and filmmaker commentary, the behind-the-scenes segments include interviews with the stars on the Fox Movie Channel, tutorials on how to draw the characters, a music video for Queen Latifah's rendition of "Walk the Dinosaur" and a handful of features focusing on popular side character Scrat, including a pair of shorts starring the hard luck sabretooth squirrel rat, who almost finds true love in the latest movie.

John Shea stars as a pedophile in the Tamil social thriller "Achchamundu! Achchamundu!" (There is fear! There is fear!). The former "Mutant X" star was seen as the villain who terrorizes an Indian family in the highly-acclaimed film.

The film, shot in New York and New Jersey, focuses on an Indian family in the U.S. struggling with traditional and modern value systems when they are suddenly targeted by a pedophile.

Shea was joined by Andrea Harrison, Prsanna, and Sneha. Arun Vaidyanathan directed the film.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed welcomes the U.S.-Indian collaboration, saying the joint venture brings East and West closer together.
